Has anybody tried Simon Phillips' signature snare drum(s)? An opinion, anybody? I haven't got to try one myself yet... The 14*5.5 looks interesting.
Is there any real difference in sound between brass and steel? Or is that a bunch of hokey?
The Dunnett stainless is an all around great drum, very fat, lots of attack and great bottom end to it. One of the few multi purpose drums I own, The Dunnett TI (titanium) drums are good too, but can go out of round because it's such a thin shell, not a drum to used on many club gigs. Does not take much to turn it into an egg.

Looks good and a great price. Should sound nice. Pearl drums are very kelw, especially they Masters custom, where you design your own shell and finish.
Hey amigo consider a Pearl Ultracast 14x6,5" snaredrum. Besides a very positive test in Modern Drummer and a Dutch magazine I have very good experiences with this snaredrum. And it isn't very expensive!
The Ultra cast is a good drum, I have one but but IMO not as versatile as say a stainless Dunnett or a Brass type shell.
Randy, I'm strongly considering a Dunnett Stainless. I play a mix of rock, blues, country. I know these are personal things but can you help me with the 14 vs. 13" question and the wood vs metal hoops question. I probably will chose the 6.5 depth
